ENTREPRENEURSHIP TO BE A MANDATORY CORE COURSE AT IIM V

Entrepreneurship was just an elective subject to be studied by the scholars at IIM, Vishakhapatnam.But with the newly introduced curriculum, entrepreneurship has become a mandatory core course for IIM Vishakhapatnam scholars to study from 2018-2019 academic year.

In order to get along with the rapidly changing business environment, the business school has revised the curriculum for the new academic session of 2018-2019.

A students entrepreneurship club called Epic (Entrepreneurial passion & innovation club) has already been established by IIM- Vishakhapatnam to encourage and stimulate entrepreneurship culture among the prospective managers. The Epic club functions to promote entrepreneurship as a career option among all the scholars. It serves as a platform for the scholars to interact with the entrepreneurial world through conducting conclaves, business talks, live projects, guest lectures, industry visits and experiential learning. The main aim is to motivate the scholars and show them the possibility to grow as an entrepreneur.

Prof. Chandrasekhar, the director of IIM-V said that the revised curriculum and the mandatory entrepreneurship course will provide the scholars an insight into the dynamics of the business environment and entrepreneurial world. He stated that, “The course is aimed at developing entrepreneurial mindset among all the students. With an aim to produce job creators rather than job seekers, the curriculum of IIM-Bangalore was recently revised, which is equally applicable to IIM-V. The curriculum has been revised making sure that it delivers the best business education enabling the students to become aware of currently emerging management issues. We are continually developing to meet the ever changing needs of the industry”.

Talking about the upcoming admission process, he said that the admissions for the next academic year are likely to start in the month of April. “The process of admission is taken care by IIM-Bangalore. However, a professor from IIM-V will represent the interview panel for the first time. The interview panel comprises of a professor from IIM-Bangalore, a professor from IIM-Vizag, and a senior alumnus of IIM-Bangalore,” said Prof Chandrasekhar.

The introduction of Entrepreneurship as a mandatory core course is going to be a great source for the growth and development of the industry and nation. Scholars will get great ideas to grow the industry beyond set limits and take it to an all new level.The course will also equip the young minds with the skills required to initiate and successfully regulate business activities.

The course is designed in a way so as to assist the students in gaining self-confidence, enhancing their decision making skills, enabling them to work as a team, helping them in building the analytical skills, and providing them exposure by initiating interaction with other successful entrepreneurs. Thus, the scholars will be able to draw inferences from their experiences while studying the course which will help them in emerging as successful entrepreneurs.

Hence, there exist no doubt in saying that studying Entrepreneurship will lead to the personal as well as professional growth of the scholars which will eventually lead to the growth and development of the nation.
